Samantha Santillo was announced as the new Monroe College Mustangs head softball coach in September 2018. Santillo most recently served as head softball coach at North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Santillo ran her own program at North Catholic for the past three years, where she led the team to the second round of the WPIAL playoffs this past season, including an undefeated record in section play. Santillo handled all aspects of coaching, including running practices, scheduling, team discipline and working with the booster club in addition to her on-field coaching duties.
Santillo has shared her expertise with a number of organizations since finishing her collegiate softball career at Robert Morris University in 2015. Since then, she has offered private catching instruction to softball players between the ages of eight and 18. Santillo also worked with Team Pennsylvania this past year, providing private lessons to catchers within the organization while also serving as an assistant coach for the 18U team under head coach Richele Hall.
Prior to taking over at North Catholic, Santillo secured her first head-coaching job right out of college with Carlynton High School in Carnegie, Pa. in 2015. She began coaching and giving lessons during her collegiate career, specializing in teaching catching, infield and outfield instruction to young women ages eight to 18.
Santillo jumped into coaching after a successful four-year career with the Robert Morris softball team. She was a three-time Golden Glove award winner as the Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Year. Santillo was the NEC All-Conference First-Team catcher in 2012, and a two-time NEC Player of the Week. She set three defensive records during her career at Robert Morris, including most career putouts (1,110), career fielding percentage (.994) and single-season fielding percentage (1.000 in 2014).
Santillo received a bachelor of science in business administration/sports management from Robert Morris University in 2015. In her time at Robert Morris, she was also a part of the RMU Colonial Leadership Academy, as well as the RMU Sports Management Association. Santillo was a two-time member of the Northeast Conference Spring Honor Roll.
Santillo is a native of Ellwood City, Pa., and currently resides in Mamaroneck, N.Y.
