Terry Karg

Terry Karg enters his ninth season and 10th year as head coach of the Monroe College football program in 2020-21. Coach Karg is the first and only head coach in the Mustangs football team's history.

Karg joined the Mustangs in the Fall of 2011, armed with a distinguished twenty-year career as a college and pro quarterback, and an impressive legacy of success at various levels of coaching. He is a coach with tremendous passion and vision for not only the sport of football but also for the student-athletes he helps develop into productive young men and college graduates.

Overall, the Mustangs have a 46-27 (.630) record over eight seasons. During his time at Monroe, Coach Karg has produced more than 50 Northeast Football Conference (NEFC) All-Conference Team members, two NEFC Offensive Player of the Year Award winners (Jalen Brown - 2018, Dominique Shoffner - 2019), and has had more than 50 student-athletes move on to NCAA Division I programs since 2013. Coach Karg was named the NEFC Coach of the Year in 2013, the program's second season, after steering the team to seven victories.

The Mustangs reached their first-ever bowl game in 2018 after going 7-1 during the regular season and reaching No. 12 in the NJCAA Football Rankings, earning an invitation to The Graphic Edge Bowl in Cedar Falls, IA. The Mustangs fell to No. 16 Iowa Central Community College, 34-20, in their first bowl-game experience.

Monroe made it back-to-back seasons in a bowl game in 2019. The Mustangs went 8-2 in the regular season, setting a program record during the season by reaching as high as No. 7 in the NJCAA Football Rankings. The team earned an invitation to the the Salt City Bowl in Hutchinson, KS, against No. 3 Hutchinson Community College. Monroe shouldered a 45-23 defeat against the host Blue Dragons, but linebacker Tim Donnahue earned Defensive MVP honors in the game.

Prior to coming to Monroe, Karg served as the offensive coordinator and director of player personnel for the Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League (AFL) where he assisted with the development of quarterbacks. With the Avengers, Karg helped develop three quarterbacks who played in the NFL: Todd Marinavich, Tony Grazizni, and Erik Wilhelm.
In a similar position with the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Pioneers in the Arena Football's Development League (AF2), Karg's offense led the league in scoring, and the Pioneers team advanced to the Arena Cup Championship game. That season, the Pioneer's quarterback was the league’s offensive MVP and the team set multiple offensive records. For his efforts, Karg was named the 2007 AF2 Assistant Coach of the Year.

In his career as a player and a coach, he’s been part of 18 playoff victories.  In fact, as a coach at Wyoming Seminary Prep between 2006-2009 he won more games in a single season than they had won in more than two decades by leading three seven-plus winning seasons.

As a player, Terry has had the opportunity to be a pro quarterback all over the world, having played in the NFL Europe, Arena and Canadian Football Leagues.

Coach Karg grew up in Seattle, WA.  He is the proud father of three daughters.
