It's every kid's dream to win a World Series and
John Rodriguez had that dream come true when he was a member of the 2006 World Champion St. Louis Cardinals that beat the Detroit Tigers in five games. And now as the hitting instructor for the Monroe College Mustangs, Rodriguez' goal is to help his team win a championship, albeit at a different level.
"Winning baseball is winning baseball," Coach Rodriguez said, "and that's done in the pros or in college by adhering to the fundamentals of the game. We have some talented young men on our team and I'm going to do everything I can to make them productive and consistent hitters."
"You can't match the experience that John brings to the Mustangs," said head coach
Luis Melendez.. "Along with his knowledge of how to do the little things that are necessary to help collegiate athletes do well at the plate, players will listen to him because they respect him and his baseball experience so much."
Coach Rodriguez made his major league debut for the Cardinals in July of 2005 and hit his first major league homerun off Ben Sheets of the Milwaukee Brewers just a couple of days later. He played in the 2006 World Series (but did not get a hit in his only Series at bat) and finished his major league career with a .298 career average, including 7 homeruns and 43 RBI.
