WEST MONROE, La., May 17, 2024 – Three Mustangs set three new personal-record times in three separate events as the Monroe College men's track and field team competed in Day 2 of the 2024 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Louisiana Monroe's Brown Stadium on Friday.
Day 2 began in the middle of the afternoon on Friday for the Mustangs with
Dwayne Fleming competing in the men's 100-meter dash prelims. Fleming set a new personal-best time for himself in the event, clocking in at 10.57 seconds.
Next up were
Tinashe Bure and
Siyabonga Mbatha running in the 800-meter run prelims. Bure crossed the line with a new PR time of 1:52.53. Mbatha finished the race in 1:59.35.
Banele Mkabela closed out the day for the Mustangs in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event. Mkabela earned a new personal-best time in the event, finishing with a time of 9:44.41.
The Mustang me wrap up their weekend at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships with one final event on Saturday, May 18. Monroe College record-holder
Kgaogelo Moloisi will represent the Mustangs in the 5,000-meter run at 4:50 p.m. ET.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
