WEST MONROE, La., May 16, 2024 – The Monroe College Mustangs men's track and field team fought through adversity on Day 1 of the 2024 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Louisiana Monroe's Brown Stadium on Thursday.
Travel issues earlier in the week as the Mustangs made their way down to Louisiana unfortunately led to a lot of the Mustangs' baggage not making it to the Bayou State with them. The Mustangs had to share gear with each other, while many ran in generic gray uniforms purchased earlier in the day while competing on Day 1.
The men's 4x800 relay kicked off the weekend for the Mustang men on Thursday. The foursome of
Siyabonga Mbatha,
Tinashe Bure,
Banele Mkabela and
Kgaogelo Moloisi clocked in at 7:55.90, placing 11th on the day in the event.
Mehdi Guerrah then ran in the 400-meter hurdles as the skies got darker and the rain started pouring down on the track. He ran a time of 56.25 in the difficult conditions to close out Day 1 for the Mustangs.
The Mustang men will have a little busier of a day on Friday, May 17, when they have four representatives competing in three different events. The Mustang men will compete in the 100-meter dash (3:50 p.m. ET), the 800-meter run (4:30 p.m. ET) and 3,000-meter steeplechase (5:50 p.m. ET).
