WEST MONROE, La., May 15, 2024 – The Monroe College Mustangs men's and women's track and field teams are down in Louisiana to compete in this weekend's NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The 2024 NJCAA Outdoor Championships will be hosted at the University of Louisiana Monroe from Thursday, May 16, through Saturday, May 18. The Mustangs are set to compete in 15 different events throughout the weekend.

MONROE AT THE 2024 NJCAA OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
At last year's NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Hobbs, N.M., the Mustang men placed 15th out of 32 teams, while the women's team took 19th out of 35 teams. The men earned four podium finishes last year, including a National Championship in the 1,500-meter run by Karim Belmahdi and a second-place finish in the men's 4x800m relay. The women reached the podium three times, with Kayla Johnson earning two of those finishes in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs, while Alyssa Dyett achieved that feat in the women's triple jump.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
