PHILADELPHIA, Pa., April 27, 2024 – The Monroe College Mustangs track and field team sent a select group of athletes to compete in the prestigious Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia this weekend.

Dwayne Fleming got things going on Friday as the only men's representative for the Mustangs at the Penn Relays. Competing in just his second 100-meter dash of the season, Fleming clocked in with a season-best time of 10.77 seconds, getting him closer to a qualifying time for the event.

Quaycian Davis turned in a strong showing in the 100-meter hurdles. Having already qualified in the event for the 2024 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Davis improved her standing in the event with a season-best time of 14.29 seconds.

Monroe's final individual competitor at Penn Relays was
Alyssa Dyett, who took her turn in the triple jump. She jumped a distance of 11.70 meters on Friday.

The Mustangs wrapped up their first day at Penn Relays with the women's 4x400m relay. The team of
Shaquka Tyrell,
Attoya Harvey,
Kayla Johnson and
Kettia Ambrose finished with a season-best time of 3:54.54 in the race.

The Mustangs closed out their time in Philadelphia with the women's 4x800m relay on Saturday. The quartet of Tyrell, Harvey,
Aaliyah Headley and Johnson clocked in with a time of 9:34.56.

The Mustangs now have just one regular-season meet left on the outdoor schedule. Next Saturday, May 4, the Mustangs will compete at the Tom Farrell Classic, hosted by St. John's University in Queens, N.Y. That will be the team's final tune-up before the 2024 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships down in Louisiana later in May.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
