PRINCETON, N.J., April 13, 2024 –
Mehdi Guerrah earned his spot in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2024 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships to highlight the day for the Monroe College Mustangs men's track and field team on Saturday at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University.
After narrowly missing qualification a couple weeks ago in the 400mH, Guerrah got over the hump on Saturday. He finished with a time of 53.32 seconds to earn his spot at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships and claim third place at the meet.
Kgaogelo Moloisi was incredibly close to qualifying in the 1,500-meter run on Saturday. He finished the race in 3:59.53, missing the qualifying standard by just .13 second.
Banele Mkabela joined him in the 1500m, running a time of 4:15.34.
Monroe's 4x400m relay team took sixth place overall on Saturday. The team of Guerrah,
Junior Grant,
Nickoy Henry and
Chazz Alexander ran a time of 3:21.22 in the relay.
Four Mustangs ran in Saturday's 800-meter run.
Tinashe Bure led the way for Monroe with a time of 1:56.66. Moloisi was next at 1:57.13.
Siyabonga Mbatha clocked in at 1:58.36, while Mkabela finished the race in 2:03.03 in his first-ever 800m.
Alexander also ran the 400-meter dash for Monroe on Saturday. He finished the race in 49.08 seconds for a new season-best time.
Joel Bennett was Monroe's lone representative in the field on Saturday. Competing in the triple jump, he registered a distance of 12.13 meters.
The Mustangs go back on the road next weekend for the Morgan State Legacy Meet, hosted by Morgan State University in Baltimore, Md. The two-day meet will begin on Friday, April 19.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
