NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., January 14, 2020 – Mohamed Bocoum drained a three-pointer for the ASA College JV team on Tuesday, giving the visitors a 61-60 victory over the Monroe College Mustangs JV men's basketball team in American Independent Post Grad and Collegiate Conference (AIPGCC) action at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The Mustangs fall to 4-11 overall with the loss and 1-2 in AIPGCC play, while the Avengers improve to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
The Mustangs were led in scoring by
Jedidiah Ashton and
Luis Quinones, who matched with 11 points apiece. Ashton also led the team with eight rebounds and a pair of blocked shots on Tuesday.
Jerald Campbell added 10 points and six boards.
James Paul contributed eight points and a team-high four assists.
AIPGCC opponent Betances Prep forfeited its season, canceling the Mustangs' game on Thursday, Jan. 16 and awarding Monroe the win. The Mustangs are also awarded a forfeit victory for their scheduled game against Betances Prep on Feb. 4, giving the Mustangs a 6-11 overall record and a 3-2 mark in AIPGCC play. The Mustangs' contest against Harcum College JV on Monday, Jan. 20 was also canceled, so Monroe is scheduled to play next on Thursday, Jan. 23, in a road AIPGCC matchup at Hamilton Hall Academy. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 12 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
