WARWICK, R.I., October 5, 2019 – The Monroe College Mustangs women's volleyball team competed in the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) Dig Pink Tri-Match on Saturday, defeating both host CCRI and Fisher College in three sets apiece. The Mustangs improve to 11-8 overall with the wins and improve their winning streak to seven matches.
MATCH 1: MONROE 3, CCRI 0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-9)
The Mustangs were impressive in the opening match, hitting .351 as a team while holding the Knights to a .000 hitting percentage for the match.
Juliana Minota led the team with nine kills in the win, hitting .438 in the process.
Lillian Olson added six kills, while
Masoomeh Angooti threw down five. Angooti also had six service aces and five digs.
Alondra Garcia led the team with 21 assists in the match, adding two aces and six digs.
Melanie Orsini picked up 22 digs in the win.
MATCH 2: MONROE 3, FISHER 0 (25-11, 25-7, 25-12)
The Mustangs kept their momentum rolling in their second match, having an equally impressive match to pick up another three-set win over Fisher. They hit .397 in the win, while Fisher was held to a -.011 hitting percentage for the match.
Olson led the team with 11 kills and hit .625 in the Mustangs' second win of the day. She also picked up five digs.
Alondra Ramos followed with eight kills and four digs. Minota added another six kills, while
Zassmine Birdwell provided five more.
Yarianne Gonzalez led the way with 15 assists, while Garcia dished out 12 and led the team with four aces. Orsini scooped up 13 digs to lead the team.
Carolina Almeda added another eight digs.
The Mustangs will play next on Friday, Oct. 11, when they host the first day of the second Monroe College Volleyball Invitational of the season. The Mustangs will play twice in the five-match day, first against Montgomery College-Rockville at 1 p.m., and later against Grand Rapids Community College at 5 p.m.

There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
