ROCHESTER, N.Y., October 19, 2019 – The No. 1-ranked Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team finished its regular-season slate with an undefeated 11-0 record, as the Mustangs took down Monroe Community College, 7-0, Saturday afternoon in the team's regular-season finale on the road.
The scoring got started quickly for the Mustangs on Saturday, as
Henry Davies scored an unassisted goal at the 2:19 mark to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead. After nearly 30 minutes of silence,
Tobias Pellio got the Mustangs back on the board in the 32nd minute, doubling the lead to two.
Luca Erhardt followed in the 39th minute off an assist from
Roque Viegas, pushing the score to 3-0 in favor of the Mustangs.
Markus Maurer added one more for the visitors at 40:36, sending the game to the half with a 4-0 advantage for the Mustangs.
Things did not slow down for the Mustangs in the second half, beginning with a 55th-minute goal by Viegas off a feed from
Leon Sitz that made it a 5-0 game. Erhardt then notched his second of the day at 69:09 to push the lead to 6-0, and then
Itsuki Namiki capped it off with a goal in the 78th minute to reach the final score of 7-0.
Goalkeeper
Oliver Semmle picked up the shutout victory on Saturday, stopping one shot to improve to 6-0 on the season. Tribunes goalkeeper Nic Fischer made 11 saves but allowed seven goals to take the loss.
The Mustangs once again held a big possession advantage on Saturday, outshooting the Tribunes, 24-1, including an 18-1 margin in shots on goal. They also had 10 corner kicks to just two for the home team.
With the regular season in the rearview, the Mustangs are set for the Region XV Championship, which they will host on Friday, Oct. 25, against rival ASA College at Flowers Park in New Rochelle. The game is set to kick off at 1 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 12 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
