James Robinson

James Robinson Jr.

Now in his second season as Monroe head coach, Coach Robinson has earned his reputation as a winner.  Since he became an assistant at Monroe and now as a head coach, the women's basketball program has prospered.  In his first year as head coach last year the Mustangs won their second consecutive national championship.  In his first season with the team in 2007-08, the Mustangs also won the national championship.  The team's record in his five years is a remarkable 147-24 (.860).

Coach Robinson‘s philosophies about playing winning basketball encompass a lot more than what goes on the court. He emphasizes mental preparation as well as physical.  He’s a big believer in ethics, leading an ethical life-style as well as a hard work ethic.  These are things he actively teaches his players on a daily basis.  As a result, under his direction his players learn and grow on and off the court.

Coach Robinson is a game strategist who is not obsessed with chart analysis, but he teaches his players to observe and analyze tendencies, both of their opponents as well as their own.  He's a great coach of shooting technique and developing quality perimeter players.  He also emphasizes fundamentals in training and in basketball technique.  If you’re in shape, work hard and learn to play the game the right way, then there’s a place for you on Coach Robinson’s team.

Since 1994, Coach Robinson has been the basketball trainer for the Department of Parks & Recreation in Peekskill, New York where he has coordinated basketball leagues and trained and mentored young athletes.  As Assistant Coach at Peekskill HS in 2006, he was an effective communicator between the players and head coach.
