Monroe Mustangs Take Home All Sports Assigning Professionals Crowley Cup

Queens, NY – Monroe University was awarded the prestigious Mickey Crowley Cup on Monday by the All Sports Assigning Professionals (ASAP), which is an award handed out annually to the top institution in Region 15 based on sportsmanship.

ASAP Co-Owners Brandon Cruz and Fred DeJesus awarded Director of Athletics Lou Melendez and Assistant Athletic Director for Events and Facilities Francis Santos with the cup following a selection process conducted by game officials across Region 15.

The award is named after Mickey Crowley, a former basketball official who eventually rose to become an assigner and supervisor of officials for Region 15. Initially, teams were solely awarded individual sportsmanship awards for their contributions to a safe environment for student-athletes, coaches, fans and officials. But since 2006, the Crowley Cup has encompassed all sports and is awarded to the institution with the most number of points across all Region 15 sports, voted on by officials.

On Monday, the Mustangs soccer and women's basketball programs earned the individual sportsmanship awards for their respective sports, culminating in the all-around Crowley Cup.

The tradition of the Crowley Cup falls on the institution's staff and their ability to cultivate a healthy environment for all participating parties at sporting events. In honor of the recently deceased Crowley, the cup embodies an institution that puts the gameday staff first.
