Charlotte, NC – Freshman wing
Kaylyn Lelie of the Monroe University women's basketball team has been named an All-American honorable mention by the NJCAA, the association announced Wednesday.
Lelie was one of three freshmen to lead the Mustangs in scoring this season. Her 13.5 average was accompanied by an impressive 7.4 rebounds per game — more than half of which coming on offensive boards. Lelie generated most of her offense off second chances as she corralled 120 offensive rebounds on the year.
The all-around player from Queens added 30 assists, 49 steals and four blocks to her totals.
Lelie eclipsed 20 points on six occasions, including a career-high 28 points against CCBC-Catonsville on January 24. In the game, the wing went 12-for-21 from the field, displaying her efficiency in the 36-point victory.
The freshman was a catalyst all season long as Monroe punched another ticket to nationals. In the Region 15 Tournament final, Lelie poured in 15 points to help lead the Mustangs to an appearance in Casper, WY.
This marks the second straight year in which a Mustang received All-American honors, with
Emma Wilson-Saltos earning an honorable mention in 2023-24.
