New York, NY – The Monroe University men's indoor track and field team competed at the Millrose Games on Saturday, with the 4x400m relay team placing second overall and qualifying for NJCAA nationals.
Held at the Nike Track and Field Center at Manhattan's Armory, the Millrose Games is in its 117th year and is often heralded as the world's longest running and most prestigious indoor track and field event.
The team of freshmen
Cleon Joseph and
Modou Sanneh, and sophomores
Dwayne Fleming and
Tinashe Bure made the podium at the event while also securing their spot in Lubbock, TX, for NJCAA nationals in March.
The quartet clocked in at 3:16.77, narrowly missing out on the gold medal. Fleming led off the first leg for the Mustangs with a time of 48.18. Joseph clocked in at 50.40 on the second leg before Bure — typically a middle-distance specialist — stepped up to run a time of 50.30. The anchor, Sanneh, ran an impressive time of 47.17.
Following the talented showcase, the Mustangs will next take part in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15.
