New York, NY – The Monroe University men's indoor track and field team competed at the Garden State Invitational on Friday.
Sophomore
Tinashe Bure looked the part at the Armory, placing first overall in the 600m and achieving a personal best time of 1:21.22, narrowly missing national qualification standards.
Sophomore
Junior Grant placed third and ran a personal best time of 1:26.19. Freshman
Anthony Barrett followed Grant in fourth place, clocking in at 1:26.92, which is also a personal best.
Three Mustangs ran in the 800m, with sophomore
Banele Mkabela placing third overall with another personal best time of 1:56.51. Sophomore
Siyabonga Mbatha ran a time of 1:58.67, while freshman
Nkanyezi Ziqubu ran a personal best time of 2:02.94.
In the 300m, freshman
Cleon Joseph placed seventh with a personal best time of 36.12. Freshman
Anesuishe Makuwatsine ran a personal best time as well, clocking in at 36.69. Sophomore
Nickoy Henry and freshman
Elijah Carswell joined
Joseph and Makuwatsine in running personal bests, achieving their individual bests with times of 37.02 and 38.45, respectively.
Closing out the day, freshman
Abraham Saywon placed seventh and ran a personal best time of 7.44 in the 60m. Saywon also ran a 23.94 in the 200m. Freshman
Elijah Upsher joined Saywon in both events, running a 7.55 in the 60m and a 25.28 in the 200m.
Freshman
Douglas Lee ran a personal best time of 7.58 in the 60m, while freshman
Felixon Elubin also ran a personal best in the event, clocking in at 7.63. Freshman
Micah McHardy ran a personal best time of 25.48 in the 200m.
The Mustangs have one final tune up before heading to Texas for nationals. The Fastrack Last Chance Meet will take place on Friday, February 28, at 1:00 pm at Ocean Breeze on Staten Island.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
