NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., March 22, 2024 – The Monroe College Mustangs JV baseball team dropped a 20-4 decision to Dominican University JV Friday afternoon at Dick Caswell Field.
 
The Mustangs fell into a deep hole right off the bat in Friday's contest, as the Chargers put 10 runs on the board in the top of the first. After a scoreless second, Dominican brought in another run in the third to take an 11-0 lead.
 
The Mustangs scored for the first time in the game in the home half of the third. After Jeurys Cuevas reached on a bunt single, Louis Paula ripped a triple to bring him home and make it an 11-1 game.
 
Dominican fired back with a six-run fourth, pushing the difference to 17-1. The Mustangs got back on the scoreboard in the fifth. With Johamile Camilo on third, he managed to steal home plate, making it a 17-2 ballgame.
 
Dominican later scored another three runs to go up, 20-2, in the top of the seventh. The Mustangs had runners on second and third with nobody out in the seventh when a ground out by Justin Gabriel brought in a run. Cuevas then beat out another bunt single, plating one final run to reach the score of 20-4.
 
Cuevas finished 2-for-4 with a run scored in the game. Camilo batted 1-for-1 with two runs and a double. Paula hit 1-for-3 with an RBI triple in the game.
 
The Mustangs JV team will play next on Tuesday, March 26, when they host Citius Prep at Dick Caswell Field. Tuesday's matchup is set for a 3 p.m. start.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
