NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., March 26, 2022 – The Monroe College Mustangs men's track and field team wrapped up the opening weekend of the 2022 outdoor season by having student-athletes compete in both the third day of the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University, and in the Oscar Moore Invitational, hosted by Rowan University.
Wail Bourahli and
Prince Mcabelo both ran in the 800-meter run on Saturday at the Raleigh Relays. Bourahli clocked in with a time of 1:53.75, while Mcabelo crossed the line in 1:54.01. Both Bourahli and Mcabelo earned qualification for the 800m at the 2022 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships with their times.
Jonathan Hackshaw competed in the 400-meter hurdles at the Raleigh Relays on Saturday. Hackshaw had an unfortunate fall in the race, but he got himself back up and made sure to finish the race, clocking in at 1:04.29.
Deshawn Williams ran in both the 800m and the 1,500-meter run at the Oscar Moore Invitational on Saturday. Williams finished the 800m in 2:29.05, and then crossed the finish line with a time of 4:59.47 in the 1500m.
The outdoor season continues for the Mustangs on Saturday, April 2, when they take a short trip down to Princeton, N.J. to compete in Princeton University's Sam Howell Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
