Charlotte, NC – Freshman guard
Eric Mejia and sophomore forward
Devere Palmer Jr. of the Monroe University men's basketball team were named All-Americans by the NJCAA, the association announced on Wednesday.
Mejia garnered third team honors, while Palmer Jr. was named an honorable mention.
Monroe's lead guard was spectacular all season, leading the team in scoring and assists. Mejia's offensive game flourished under head coach
Jeff Brustad as the Bronx native led the team with a 43.2% mark from beyond the arc.
Mejia entered the collegiate ranks with a bang, as in just the second game of his career he scored a season-high 29 points in a 97-82 victory over Casper College on November 7. Mejia followed up this performance with seven other 20-point showings.
Palmer Jr. showcased his mid-range prowess all season for the Mustangs, helping garner honorable mention honors. His all-around game helped him thrive in close games as Palmer Jr. finished with single-digit points just seven times in his 28 games played.
Efficiency was the name of the game for the Queens native, as Palmer Jr. shot just under 50% from the field on the year. He thrived at getting to the line too, shooting 79.2% from the charity stripe on 154 attempts.
In Monroe's first-round victory over Chipola College at nationals, Palmer Jr. led the team in scoring with 17 points on a 6-for-11 clip.
The duo are the first Mustangs to be named All-Americans since Melvin Council Jr. was named First Team All-American in 2022-23.
