Women's Indoor Track And Field Earns Four Individual National Qualifiers At David Hemery Valentine Invitational

Boston, MA – The Monroe University women's indoor track and field team competed at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday, with the medley relay team highlighting a solid day for the Mustangs by clinching a spot at NJCAA nationals.

The team of sophomores Attoya Harvey and Kettia Ambrose, and freshmen Tanesia Gardiner and Joy Fridah Jepleting clocked in at 12:15.90 to earn a spot in Lubbock, TX. Their nationals-clinching performance comes a day following the men's medley relay team achieved the same feat.

In addition to the medley relay qualifiers, the Mustangs had four national qualifiers on the day.

Freshman Kaliyah Jones got her day started with an indoor personal-best time of 57.22, which qualifies her for nationals. Harvey and Gardiner solidified their appearances in Lubbock in the 1000m. Harvey clocked in at 2:58.62, while Gardiner recorded a time of 3:08.14.

Rounding out the Mustang qualifiers was freshman Brinel Thomas in the long jump. Thomas recorded a personal-best mark of 5.66m.

Ambrose rebounded from the medley relay event with a time of 57.10 in the 400m. Sophomore Julihanna Johnson also competed in the event, recording a time of 1:05.92.

Freshman Nthabiseng Komane ran a time of 3:24.05 in the 1000m, joining Harvey and Gardiner in the event. Freshman Jazmien Ferguson competed in two events. She ran an 8.59 60m dash before running in the 200m race and recording a time of 29.27.

Lastly, Jepleting ran a time of 5:16.92 in the mile run, narrowly missing national qualification standards.

The Mustangs will have one final tune up before nationals on Friday, February 21, when they take part in the Garden State Invitational
