New York, NY – The Monroe University women's indoor track and field team competed at the Dr. Sander Invitational this weekend, with sophomores
Kettia Ambrose and
Attoya Harvey punching their tickets to the NJCAA Championships with their respective performances.
Ambrose opened day one on Friday with a splash in her debut in the 400m. The Antigua and Barbuda native clinched a personal best time of 56.99 to earn a spot in Lubbock, TX, for the indoor national championships in March.
Harvey joined Ambrose in clinching a spot at nationals with a season-best time of 5:11.80 in the mile run. Harvey will head to Lubbock, TX, in March to compete in the same event.
Freshman
Brinel Thomas made her collegiate debut this weekend in the long jump. She jumped a distance of 5.39m at the Dr. Sander Invitational.
Rounding out the Mustang competitors, sophomore
Julihanna Johnson and freshman
Aleisha Clarke competed in the 400m and 60mh, respectively. Johnson clocked in at 1:04.85 in the 400m, while Clarke ran a personal best time of 9.24 in the 60mh.
Monroe have a busy week ahead as they take part in the METS Indoor Championships on Staten Island on Friday, January 31, and the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston, MA, on Friday, January 31, and Saturday, February 1.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
