Jimmy Ascencio Tabbed Assistant Cross Country and Track and Field Coach

New Rochelle, NY – Head coach Shirvon Greene of the men's and women's cross country and track and field teams has announced the hiring of Jimmy Ascencio as assistant coach for the upcoming seasons.

Ascencio will serve as assistant coach for all three men's and women's programs while also overseeing strength and conditioning, equipment, and recruitment.

Ascencio is both an accomplished athlete and coach with the Manhattanville University Valiants.

During his athletic career, Ascencio was an all-conference selection in 2022-23 and is the former school record holder in the 600m. He currently sits on the all-time school record list for his times in the 400m and 800m.

Upon graduating with his Bachelor's in Sports Studies, Ascencio kicked off his coaching career with the Valiants and propelled each program to new heights.

Under his tutelage, the women's cross country team earned its highest placement in program history and welcomed the first member in team history to a First Team All-Conference selection. Ascencio elevated the men's program as well in 2024, as it earned its highest placement in program history that year.

Switching to track and field, Ascencio guided two athletes to Bronze and Silver medals, respectively, at the Skyline Conference Championships in 2024. In 2025, Ascencio oversaw a first-place placement in the men's 800m and 1500m at the same event.

Overall, Ascencio made his mark with the program by recruiting the university's highest recruiting class since 2018. He coached 14 athletes in the top-ten all-time in multiple events with the Valiants, ranging from the 400m to the 5000m.

Ascencio has certifications as a USATF Level I Coach and USA Weightlifting Level I Coach.

The Bronx native will debut at Monroe this weekend when the men's and women's cross country teams compete at the Queensborough Invite / NJCAA Division I Region 15 Championships at Van Cortlandt Park on Sunday.
