NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., March 18, 2019 – The Monroe College Mustangs JV baseball team scored every time it came to bat on Monday, resulting in a 16-10 victory over the College of New Rochelle at Dick Caswell Field. The Mustangs improve to 2-4 overall with the win.

Jaylen Kelley hit a single into left with one away in the bottom of the first. He moved to second when
Chris Javier grounded out to third, and then scored when
Stanley David ripped a line-drive single up the middle, putting Monroe up, 1-0.

The Blue Angels put each of their first two batters on base in the top of the second. Phillip Ramos then stole third to put runners on the corners with nobody out. CNR sent the runner to second, where he was thrown out, but that allowed Ramos to score from third and tie the game at 1-1.

In the bottom of the second,
Keanu Paulino was hit by a pitch with one out, and then
Chris Navarro doubled to left-center.
Adrian Rosario then hit a high chopper off the top of the pitcher's mitt, allowing Paulino to score and put the Mustangs back in the lead.
Javier Ortiz then hit a slow chopper to first, and the first baseman chose to throw home, but the throw was not in time, scoring Navarro from third to make it a 3-1 game.

The Mustangs used small-ball to get back on the board in the bottom of the third. With
Forrest Ruiz on first,
Kevin Hernandez sacrificed him over to second. Ruiz then stole third, and was brought home on a single by Paulino to push Monroe's lead to 4-1.

Rosario was hit by a pitch to lead off the fourth for Monroe, and then Ortiz drew a walk. With one out, a single by Javier brought in Rosario to make it a 5-1 game. The Mustangs later had
Stanley David and Javier on second and third when a single into right-center by Ruiz brought in both runners to give the Mustangs a 7-1 advantage.

Eric Diaz led off the fifth with a walk, and with one out,
Bryant Perdomo dropped a single just over the first baseman.
John Vargas then singled to center, scoring Diaz to push Monroe's lead to 8-1. The Mustangs had the bases loaded with two outs when
Eddy Vicioso walked in a pinch-hit opportunity, plating Perdomo from third to make it a 9-1 game.

The Blue Angels got back on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth. Kendall Lanier walked to lead off the inning, and Ramos followed with a base-on-balls of his own. A wild pitch put both runners into scoring position, and Tomas Ramirez Lopez was able to bring in Lanier with a sacrifice fly to center, getting the Blue Angels back within seven. Angel Vega IV later drew a bases-loaded walk to get the visitors within six. Juan Diaz Jimenez walked after that to make it a 9-4 game. Anthony Graves II then scored on a wild pitch to make it a four-run game. Xavier Warren then hit a line-drive triple to right-center, scoring two more runs to make it a 9-7 ballgame. Another wild pitch brought in Warren, getting the Blue Angels within a run. Lanier later scored on another wild pitch, tying the game at 9-9.

The Mustangs bounced back to regain the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Hernandez drew a walk and then moved to second on a ground out.
Bryant Perdomo then blasted a triple to deep center, scoring Hernandez to put the Mustangs up, 10-9. With runners on the corners, a balk brought Perdomo in to put the Mustangs up by two.

CNR loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the seventh. Chris Suarez then hit a fly ball to left, deep enough to score Vega and make it a one-run game once again.

Jordy Batista was hit by a pitch to lead off the home half of the seventh.
Jonas Marte then doubled down the left-field line, and Hernandez drew a walk to load the bases. Diaz then smacked a single through the right side, scoring two runs to push the lead back to three. With runners on first and third, a failed pickoff to first allowed Hernandez to come home and make it a 14-10 game. Diaz then stole third, and the ball trickled into left field, allowing him to score and put Monroe up, 15-10. Vargas managed to reach on an error to keep the inning going, and then
Carlos Aranda roped a triple to left-center, scoring Vargas to make it a six-run game.

Perdomo finished 2-for-3 with two runs. an RBI and a triple. Diaz finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs and a stolen base. Ruiz also knocked in two runs and scored another in a 1-for-2 outing. Aranda went 1-for-2 with an RBI triple. Â Marte and Navarro each went 1-for-2 with a run and a double.

The Mustangs get back to work on Thursday, March 21, when they visit SUNY Orange in Middletown, N.Y. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28Â teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has nine varsity and junior varsity teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
