BOSTON, Mass., September 21, 2024 – Led by a trio of personal-best times, the No. 25-ranked Monroe University Mustangs men's cross country team placed third out of five scoring collegiate teams at the 2024 Codfish Bowl Classic at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass., on Saturday.
Tinashe Bure led the way for the Mustangs with a 12th-place overall finish out of a field of 207 runners on Saturday, clocking in with a PR time of 26:34.0 on the 8K course.
Banele Mkabela set a new personal-record for himself as well, trailing Bure by just a hair at 26:34.8 to take 13th place.
Nkanyezi Ziqubu ran a time of 27:03.4 to take 19th in his first 8K collegiate race.
Siyabonga Mbatha then also clocked in with a PR time of 27:08.8 to place 21st overall.
Anesuishe Makuwatsine was Monroe's fifth scorer after finishing in 35:13.4.
The Mustangs compete for the third time this season this coming Saturday, Sept. 28, when they run in the Caldwell University Cougar Chase Invite in Sayreville, N.J. Saturday's meet is set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
