Monroe Men’s Rugby Takes Down Defending Tri-State Conference Champion New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y., September 21, 2017 – The Monroe College men's rugby team took to the road once again on Sunday to visit last year's Tri-State Conference champion SUNY New Paltz. The Mustangs made a statement in the game, defeating the defending champions by a score of 55-19. The win improves the Mustangs to 2-0 on the season.

The Mustangs started fast, getting in behind the New Paltz defense and showing intent to keep the ball alive. They kept the heat on throughout the first half, taking a 40-14 lead at the break.

A hot day took its toll on both teams, as the scoring slowed down the scoring significantly in the second half. The Mustangs managed to pull away for the 55-19 win with a few more second-half tries.

Isaiah Rosario scored a pair of tries for the Mustangs, while captain Dazzmen Johnson, Naquan Lloyd, Javonte McGothen, Marquis Hill, Cahlil Ross and Tyreek Carrington also tallied a try apiece. Rosario also added six conversions.

The Mustangs face off with Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Friday, Sept. 22. The rematch of last year's postseason contest is set to begin at 3 p.m.
